Fire Safety Director
The Fire Safety Director (FSD) must hold a valid Certificate of Fitness (F89) and is responsible for implementing a Fire Safety and Evacuation Plan, training fire safety personnel (FSP), and other duties related to the Fire Safety and Evacuation Plan.
This Certificate of Fitness is valid only at a specific location and for the specific person to whom it is issued.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age.
Applicants must have a reasonable understanding of the English language and be able to answer satisfactorily such questions as may be asked on the examination.
Applicants must present two pieces of satisfactory identification i.e., driver’s license and passport picture ID.
Applicants must have at least three (3) years’ full-time work experience in one or more of the following fields (in any combination thereof),or 18 months’ full-time work experience in one or more of the following fields (in any combination thereof) that includes at least six (6) months of continuous employment at one work location.
2. Applicants must satisfactorily complete (attend and pass) a training course for Fire Safety Director given by a school or other organization accredited by the FDNY.
3. Applicants must obtain a passing score of 70% on the Graduation Test given by the FDNY accredited school in order to apply for the Written Test.
Applicants must have at least three (3) years’ full-time work experience in one or more of the following fields (in any combination thereof), OR 18 months’ full-time work experience in one or more of the following fields (in any combination thereof) that includes at least six (6) months of continuous employment at one work location:
Volunteer Fire Fighter
Building Maintenance Personnel (e.g. engineers, Class E or J-1 Building Superintendent, etc.)
Building Evacuation Supervisor (must be listed on the building Fire Safety Plan or comprehensive fire safety/EAP plan)
Floor Warden or Brigade member (must be listed on the building Fire Safety Plan or comprehensive fire safety/EAP plan)
Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm System in Homeless Shelters
Construction Site Fire Safety Manager or Site Safety Manager
F89 - Certificate of Fitness for Fire Life and Safety Director (F89/T89)
Z89 - Non-Fire Emergencies / EAP Course
